Counselling Frequently Asked Questions: Getting Started
Counselling can be helpful when emotions, relationships, behaviours, or life circumstances begin to feel overwhelming or difficult to navigate alone. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from support. Many people seek counselling to better understand themselves, strengthen relationships, build coping skills, or create meaningful change in their lives.
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We’ll talk about what brings you to counselling, your goals, and any questions you may have. There is no pressure to share everything right away. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood.
Feeling nervous is completely normal.
Beginning counselling can feel vulnerable, especially if you’ve never attended before. You don’t need to have the right words or know exactly where to start. My role is to meet you where you are and create a space that feels safe, supportive, and respectful of your pace.
Every person’s journey is unique. Some clients attend counselling for a short period to address a specific concern, while others benefit from longer-term support. Together, we will regularly check in about your goals and what feels most helpful for you.
Counselling Services
That’s completely okay. Children often communicate through play, art, movement, creativity, and relationship rather than conversation alone. Sessions are adapted to your child’s developmental stage and comfort level.
Parent/caregiver involvement depends on your child’s age, needs, and goals. For younger children, caregiver involvement is often an important part of the process. For teens, we balance parental/caregiver involvement with their need for privacy and autonomy. We will discuss what involvement looks like from the beginning.
For children aged 12 and under, I begin with a parent/caregiver session so we can talk about your concerns, your child’s strengths, and what you hope counselling will support.
For youth over the age of 12, I will often include them in this initial session so that we can begin getting to know one another and discuss their goals and hopes for counselling together.
Yes. I provide neurodiversity-affirming support for children, youth, and adults. My approach focuses on understanding, accommodation, emotional regulation, and strengths rather than trying to change who someone is.
Every child experiences challenges as they grow, and seeking support does not mean something is wrong. Counselling may be helpful if your child is struggling with big emotions, anxiety, behavioural changes, difficulties at school, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, or navigating a significant life change.
You do not need to wait until concerns feel severe before reaching out. Many families seek counselling to better understand their child’s needs, strengthen connection, and support their emotional well-being.
If you’re unsure whether counselling is the right fit, I would be happy to discuss your concerns and explore what support may be most helpful for your child and family.
No. Parent coaching can support caregivers of children and teens of all ages. Sessions focus on strengthening connection, understanding behaviour, improving communication, and building confidence in your parenting approach.
Absolutely not.
Parent coaching is a collaborative process grounded in compassion and curiosity. Together, we explore what’s happening beneath the behaviour and identify practical ways to support both you and your child.
I support adults navigating anxiety, stress, emotional regulation challenges, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-understanding, and the impact of early attachment experiences. Sessions provide a safe space to explore patterns, strengthen resilience, and reconnect with your authentic self.
No. A diagnosis is not required. Many people seek counselling simply because they want support, insight, or a safe space to process life’s challenges.
Practical Questions
Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and plan. I recommend checking directly with your insurer regarding coverage for services provided by a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) and Counselling Therapist (CT).
Counselling Sessions
Individual counselling sessions are $200 per 50-minute session.
Infant Massage
Infant massage sessions are $75 per session. The program is delivered over five sessions and is designed to support connection, confidence, and bonding between caregivers and their babies.
Sliding Scale Availability
I believe that access to support is important. A limited number of sliding scale spaces may be available based on individual circumstances. If cost is a barrier, please feel welcome to discuss this with me during a complimentary consultation call.
Your appointment time is reserved for you. As such, if you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours beforehand. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up for your appointment, you will be charged for half the rate of the session. Cancellation fees may be waived for exceptional circumstances or in the case of emergency only.
Infant Massage
Infant massage is a gentle, nurturing practice that uses positive touch to support your baby’s emotional, physical, and developmental well-being. Through guided instruction, caregivers learn simple massage techniques that promote connection, relaxation, and communication while strengthening the parent-child bond.
Infant Massage is for infants who are 0-12 months of age. However, during the sessions, you will learn to adapt massage to your growing baby throughout childhood.
Infant massage offers many benefits for both babies and caregivers. For babies, it may support relaxation, sleep, digestion, body awareness, and nervous system regulation. For caregivers, it provides an opportunity to slow down, build confidence, learn their baby’s cues, and strengthen the attachment relationship through meaningful connection and touch.

Infant Massage Instruction
That is completely okay.
Infant massage sessions are baby-led and designed to be flexible. Babies communicate their needs in many ways, and feeding, cuddling, diaper changes, sleeping, or taking breaks are all welcomed parts of the process. There is no expectation for your baby to participate for the entire session—we simply follow their cues and honour what they need in the moment.
If your baby falls asleep or is not interested, I have extra dolls that you can practice the techniques on, so that you are still able to practice and get full benefit out of the sessions.
